This reflective journal focuses on the research project done advantage and disadvantage of social media network in the business operations. The research covered and analyzed the role of social media in the business operations of food companies in Australian market so that their advantages and disadvantages can be understood. On this premise, the journal discusses the lessons achieved from the course work and research. This learning process was very useful for me as I was able to enhance my knowledge and understanding towards the specific area i.e. use of social networking channels and their advantages and disadvantages. Along with this, the journal includes effectiveness and usefulness of learning experience and new knowledge for future (Barnard, 2011).
Reflective Journal scope
Reflective journal is helpful in revealing the effectiveness and usefulness of the overall learning process. The reflective journal is helpful in analyzing the usefulness of the learning process for future. Along with this, the reflective journal is very helpful in understanding the overall process and planning of research undertaken in both assignments (Boud, 2001). The reflective journal is helpful to become a better critical thinker as the course required us to analyze a specific topic and give the arguments on that topic.
Effectiveness of learning experience: The learning process is helpful in understanding various literatures and various ways to taking information. The learning process is effective to look both sides of arguments in the research and provide the opinion to enhance the knowledge. Based on the study, I realized that there are both positive and negative sides of social media channels. The learning process enabled me to precisely understand and create certainty towards my knowledge. This was a sequential learning process in which I gathered the information, classified them, and completed key information segment. The study related to consumer behavior in the course work is helpful in understanding their actions towards the products and services in market.
Use of learning process: This learning process will be helpful for me in future as the process has increased my knowledge and improve my critical thinking for the research projects. The learning process allowed me to become a better critical thinker as the course required us to analyze a specific topic and give the arguments on that topic. The topic covered in each week gave me the opportunity to enhance my knowledge in various areas. Over the every week of the learning process, I activated my prior knowledge, learned new information, shared concerned and strategies. Due to the learning process, I am better able to identify and summarize the research topic. With the practice and learning process, my writing, research and presentation skills are also enhanced through practice, determination and understanding for the future. With the writing assignments, I leaned new skills and innovative approaches which improved my abilities and thoughts logically and effectively (Zikmund, 2010.) I also even noticed that my research skills are improved and helpful to support the credibility of writing. The research provided significant knowledge about the use of social media channels in effective way. After attending the course work, I was able to understanding the readings better than before.
Process of learning: First of all, from the literature review, I analyzed the concept of social media and use of various networks in the business operations. Specifically, I noticed that there are various social media platforms that are currently used by the companies to enhance the brand value of the business. Further, I learned that with the advantages, there are various disadvantages of social media platforms in the business operations as there are the threats of security, misuse of intellectual property and issues of trademark and copyright. Further, the research provided significant knowledge about the use of social media channels in effective way. In support of this, I noted that social media are effective in attracting the large base of customers for the profit of business if they are used in proper manner (Bryman & Bell, 2015).
From the both assignments, I have learned that as compared to traditional media channels, the cost incurred in social media is very low. Social media is now fastest promotional and advertisement medium to spread all the relevant news and information in all over the world. The study was very helpful in examining and developing clear understanding about the use of social media to improve the business. With the research and analysis, I observed that social media channels are helpful in creating and developing new ways of social interaction with the customers. I observed with various literatures that people are spending their time in the online channels. The study related to consumer behavior in the course work is helpful in understanding their actions towards the products and services in market (Teinman & Hawkins, 2010). By the proper research, I have learned that there are various advantages of social media channels i.e. customer services, interactivity, cost control and target the potential customers. On the other hand, I also observed that companies have to face various challenges due to social media channels like trademark issues, privacy issues, threats of negative feedbacks and time consuming (Hollensen, 2015).
I noted that the research concluded that social media channels are very effective in making the products and services accessible for the consumers. Customers are now tech savvy due to availability of various types of networks. Based on the overall research, it was concluded that consumers always select those products and services that can fulfill their needs. With this, I also learned that companies are facing challenges in the business due to some drawbacks of the social media channels (Klimova, 2013). Customers give negative feedbacks to the companies and their products if they have any complaint and this can impact on the brand image of the company. This was a sequential learning process in which I gathered the information, classified them, and completed key information segment. After that I performed various studies and examined the information. Further, the process of report writing and draft evaluation was done effectively (Weiss, Lurie & Macinnis, 2008).
Evaluation: Conducting the research was not as much difficult for me as I was expected. The research was successful by the proper selection of methodology. Firstly I discovered that the research approaches depends upon the particular research philosophy employed with the study. In order to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the social media networks in the business operations, I chose both qualitative and quantitative research as they are provide more accurate information and subscribes to well-defined structure. In the collection of information, I noted that most effective data collection method was the use of questionnaire (Malterud, Siersma & Guassora, 2016). The questionnaires are beneficial as they are time-saving, cheap, less weighty and helpful in recording the collected information which makes the analysis process easy. Along with this, information collected by this method gave rise to the comprehensive conclusion which focused on validity and reliance of data. The use for both qualitative and quantitative data was important for the sampling techniques. Further, I developed strong preferences to the random sampling technique. From the overall process of research, I learnt how to generate the information to conduct specific research (Kumar, 2014).
From this reflective journal, I noted that I was well organization during the overall learning process and conducting the study as indicated in my daily research plan. In fact, the overall learning process was helpful for me to analyze the factors and arguments related to advantage and disadvantage of social media. With the research and analysis, I observed that social media channels are helpful in creating and developing new ways of social interaction with the customers. The arguments were presented clearly in terms of food industry that was succeeded after the application of literature reviews and strategies. Related to research methodology, I noted that I selected appropriate methodology for the study. Overall, the learning process was very useful for me as I was able to enhance my knowledge and understanding towards the specific area i.e. use of social networking channels and their advantages and disadvantages. Along with this, the learning process allowed me to become a better critical thinker as the course required us to analyze a specific topic and give the arguments on that topic. After attending the course work, I was able to understanding the readings better than before. Along with this, I am also able o analyze the information and incorporate the ideas from past to enhance the literacy towards the topic for the research.
