Project Proposal Assignment to Tackle Homelessness in Melbourne

Question

Task: Develop a concise project proposal that reflects a social innovation mindset and the current terms social issue. The issue will be a complex or ‘wicked problem’. Narrow the focus of your proposal to a specific problem or opportunity within the context of the social issue. Use a domain of your choice e.g. ICT, construction, services etc. to frame the project solution. Your proposal should demonstrate your ability to conceptualise and communicate both professionally and persuasively, a project that your team (two to four students) can deliver within the project constraints.

Answer

1. Project Description
 1.1. Opportunity/ Problem
Homelessness is a serious problem, prevalent across Australia; especially the youth are affected by the issue. It has been observed that many youths between the age of 10 to 24 run a higher risk of homelessness. The underlying reason could be some crisis, violence at home or family breakdown. Almost 40% of the youth in Melbourne run the risk during the present times. The project proposal assignment is predominantly focused on the homeless youth in Melbourne, Australia. It has been observed that the females are more susceptible to homelessness than the males.

 1.2. Proposed Project
To remedy the problem, an online system updater has been proposed. The project will initially be launched only in Melbourne. The deemed project proposal assignment will involve the development of an online system or application, which will register the homeless youth. The database will be shared with the NGO's or social service agencies, who in return will find appropriate shelters and accommodations for the youth along with the job opportunities.

 1.3. Strategic Alignment
The most important strategy is to develop an online system to register homeless people in Melbourne. It will help focus on creating a cohesive environment for the youth and provide them with the basic necessity of home so that they can have a desirable future.

2. Alternative
A different approach to the selected problem will include an offline registration of the youth at the social centres across Melbourne. However, there is a constraint of time and money as the youth will have to fill out the forms and submit it to the concerned authorities at the centres. The online registration will provide ease and efficiency, as the forms can be filled at any place and any time (Schwalbe, 2015).
