Answer

Introduction: This Project management Case Study will focus on reviewing the FIFA world cup tournaments operations. Project can be defined as the temporary endeavour undertaken in manner to develop a unique product, result or service. Project management is a set of practices that allows an individual in managing the project constraints and the operational activities in an efficient and effective manner. It states to stepwise follow the different phases starting from initiation to closure and deliver the every objective of the project that can fulfil the needs and requirements of the consumers. Project management Case Study are being prepared by our management experts from top universities which ensures we deliver top quality management assignment help service. This Project management Case Study consist of six major constraints including risk, resources, quality, scope, time, and cost that needs to be managed in efficient way for the successful delivery of any project. This report aims at delivering the best project management practices those could be helpful in organizing the “FIFA 2018 World Cup football Tournament.” This report will cover the VOC, CCR, CTQ, and the implementation of the project management in this project. There are many project management practices available in the present time and some o f them also discussed considering the implementation of those practices in this project.

Background and assumptions: The goal of the Project management Case Study is to organize 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament and the objectives of this project can be listed as following:

  • To finish the project within the estimated deadline without lagging in time constraint
  • To manage and maintain happy team members in a happy team environment where every team member is well aware with his or her roles and responsibilities
  • To deliver value to customers after analysing every possible needs and requirements and delivering more than the expectations
  • To stay within the estimated budget as expected ($11.8 billion) without lagging in the cost constraint
  • To meet the requirements of the project in much effective and efficient manner

The assumptions those have been considered as follows:

  • The project will have enough sponsors
  • The budget of the project will be met by the sponsors
  • The governments will allow necessary permissions and safety requirements

Voice of the Customer (VOC): It can be described as the process of capturing the feedbacks and requirements from the external or internal consumers in manner to modify the services according to the feedback and fulfil their needs and requirements through introducing best class product or service quality. The feedback and suggestions can be gathered from the previous audience regarding the type of the services and quality those had been lagging in the previous tournaments (Johnson, 2017). The manager needs to be constantly innovative and proactive for capturing the customers requirements with time. For the present scenario, social media will be the greatest platform where lots of audiences can come at a single platform and suggest about the service and quality improvement.

Critical to Customer Requirements (CCR): The aspects of the consumers is always considerable for the project to be successful. This includes speed, quality, services and many more including the acceptance and refusal of the products or services being introduced to them. The identification of the constraints those are critical to the consumers is an essential factor for delivering the services and products those are most effective and efficient for the delivery of the project. In this case study, the audiences are the biggest consumer and thus, the survey should must analyse the services or the products those are most vital for them and introducing these facts in the project will allow in delivering the project successfully (Anholon & Sano, 2016). Listening to the voice of consumers will allow the project manager to identify the CCR and modify the deliverables of the project accordingly.

Critical to Quality parameters (CTQ): This is another concerning factor related to the identification of the needs and requirements of the consumers. CTC and CTQ are both the different perspectives as it will be analysing the factors those are important for the quality of the services or the products whereas the CTC will be focusing on the facts and the constraints those are necessary customer.

Implementation of Lean Project Management for 2018 football: It can be descried as the application of the lean concepts including thinking, construction, and manufacturing to the project management that can be utilized for eliminating the wastes and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the project. This is the very first principle of the lean project management to eliminate the wastes that was developed due to overburden and unevenness in the workloads (Basu, 2017). Thus, the approach of this Project management Case Study will be eliminate the wastes those could be created due to the overburden and unevenness factors. The successful implementation of the lean project management could be delivered through delivering the following principles while executing this project:

Sl No

Principle

Description

1

Understand Value

The first principle emphasizes on the knowledge gaining and understanding of the service value of the project in the eyes of the consumer related to the FIFA world cup services. It can be understand through analysing the amount that the user is willing to pay for the services. The top-down approach can be helpful in defining how much consumers are interested in the same service and how much it value for them. The elimination in this project should be on the extra resources that can be always seen in every tournament and it should be restricted to the extent level.

2

Map the Value Stream

it can be described as the activities’ complete sequence involved in delivering the end-product with the value stream mapping and agreed-upon value through the application of the visualization techniques including spaghetti diagrams, flowcharts, Kanban, and many more (Pace, 2017). It can be described as the technique that allows the strategies and management by the managers in manner to analyse the value streams where the optimize and waste occur and thus, reduce the waste generated. Development of the value stream map and documenting all the products and the process steps those organizations can use for limiting the wastes and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the customer.

3

Ensure the mapped value stream flows

The above principles are helpful in developing ensuring mapping the value streaming optimization and preservation of flow including the evenness and the rate which information and items proceeding through the streaming value. The unexpected, early, and excess waste development should be synchronized in manner to optimize the flow of the project management (Bhola, 2017). This principle will emphasize on eliminating the work that adds no value after identifying through analysing the project and thus, influencing or improving the value stream flow related to the development and execution of the project.

4

Employ a pull approach

the push approach was never very responsive on the basis of internally-determining production and schedule quota. The pull approach will allow the manager to manage the project much smoothly and efficiently and meeting the demands of the consumers. The pull approach can be very difficult to be employed in the project however, this will ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the entire project without altering the outcome and production.

Processes of Different Methodologies
PMBOK: The PMBOK emphasizes on five phases or processes in manner to deliver the project in successful and efficient way including following ways:

Initiation: This process emphasizes on the identification of the stakeholders those will be involved throughout the project lifecycle and the development of the project charter in manner to figure out the initial requirements and approval on the project. The project charter will allow in understanding the inputs, techniques and tools, and outputs of the project and make the higher authorities understand about the beneficial aspects of the project. Organizational process assets, agreements, business documents, and others related to the FIFA world cup will be analysed and recorded in this phase of the project (Rivera & Kashiwagi, 2016). Stakeholder register, planning updates, and documentation update will be provided in this project in manner to put the proposal in front of the higher authorities and get approval for further proceedings.

Planning: This can be considered as the vast and complex process for the project in manner to develop a sophisticated plan that can allow smooth and efficient delivery of the project. It includes the scope identification and definition, requirement collection, WBS, timeline, budget and various other estimations in relation to the development of the project. Within this process, it also includes schedule estimation and definition using the tools such as network diagram, Gannt chart and others. The communication management, procurement management, and risk management are the important aspects in this project defining the risks and analysing the risks associated with the delivery of the project without any uncertainties and risks.

Execution: This process will emphasize on the development of the team, quality management, team management, project knowledge and many more considering the deployment of the project. The stadium resources, facilities, parking, entry-exits, and other resources will be established within this process. The planned activities and the operations will be executed in manner to deliver the project in successful and efficient way (Ganiron, 2015). The communication, risk responses, procurements, and the stakeholder engagement will be executed and deployed in this project and thus delivering the project in successful and efficient way.

Monitoring and controlling: The activities need to be monitored and implementation of the alternatives those could manipulate the project towards achieving the goals for the instance, if project lacks in meeting those estimated goals and objectives. This Project management Case Study will focus on Project constraints will be analysed and monitored in manner to identify the strategies those could allow the control and management of the project deliverables.

Closing: the documentation update, final report, asset recovery and delivery, and other service will be performed in manner to release all the resources associated with the project.

PRINCE2: PRINCE 2 emphasizes on the seven processes for the successful management and delivery of the project that include the following:

Directing a project: it includes initiation, stage boundaries. Ad hoc direction, project closure other than the daily operational activities.

Starting up a project: the availability of the information to the entire project team, design and adoption of the project management team who will be contributing in the deployment of the project and the development of the initial stage plan are the processes included int his process of PRINCE 2.

Initiating the Project management Case Study project: Agreement on the project deployment, establishing stable management, assuring acceptance, encouraging board, providing decision-making processes and project baseline, and ensuring the cost-cut and budget of the entire project are some of the vital process included in this phase (Karten, 2016).

Managing stage boundaries: Assurance on the project board, sharing the information with the project board, r5ecording the lessons and the measurements and other constraints are vital throughout the delivery of this project in manner to manage the project constraints and deliver the project successfully.

Managing stage boundaries: Assurance on the project board, sharing the information with the project board, recording the lessons and the measurements and other constraints are vital throughout the delivery of this project in manner to manage the project constraints and deliver the project successfully.

Managing service delivery: Executing the operational activity, assurance on doing the work, assessing forecasts and work progress regularly, meeting the quality criteria and obtaining the approval for the completed products.

Closing the project: Releasing all the resources, checklist of the deliveries, and development of the report are the processes involved in this phase in manner to record the deliveries and compare whether it meets the objectives and goals of the project or not.

Organisational Project Management: It can be defined as the delivery and execution of the strategies of the organization through associating the systems of the program management, portfolio management, and project management. This emphasizes on the delivery of the all the mentioned management aspects within the organization in manner to assure that the delivery of the project will meet the ultimate needs and requirements of the users. Combining these three systems will allow the project to be efficient and effective enough considering the delivery of the objectives and goals of the project.

Agile Practices: It includes the iterating early and regularly can be the shortest and meaningful definition of the agile management practices considering the deployment of the iterations and releases in planned way. The first step emphasizes on the identification and prioritization of the supersets of features by the agile team. This processes must be precise and accurate in manner to define the project and organizational goals and deliver the project that can fulfil all the requirements (Iamandi et al., 2015). This practice is helpful in estimating which constraint or activity is going to be delivered within the estimated timeline and modifying the pace if the modification is required for meeting the objectives and goals of the project.

Lean Six Sigma (DMAIC Methodology): This methodology consist of five major processes including definition, measurement, analysis, improvement, and control those could be helpful in refining the projects and allow the project manger to deliver sustainable, quantifiable results.

2

Measure

it focuses on measuring how the current process performing or identifying the magnitude of level of severity of the identified problem. This is delivered while the team collects data along with analyse for the measurement.

3

Analyse

this process emphasizes on the identification of the factors causing problems and this is one of the sector that is most of the times lag while proposing the solution for the problem (Unhelkar, 2016). This cause to many lagging factors such as wastes time, consumes resources, more variation developed, and often results in new problems.

4

Improve

this stage is the implementation of the strategies those could be utilized for mitigating the problems and attempting the activities those could result in the improvement of the existing process or the project deliveries. This phase can be much precise through executing the brainstorm process, pilot process change, implement solutions, and collect measurement6 of the improvement. It allows the consideration of many aspects for a single topic and proposing the best course of action.

5

Control

sustaining the improvement is the most crucial objective this process through ensuring the management and maintenance of the gains. The major focus of this project is to monitor the plan in manner to continue the deployment of the suggested changes and deliver the changes successfully that can meet the needs and requirements of the users.

Conclusion: Project management practices are the only practices that can help the manager to deliver all the objectives and goals for organizing the 2018 FIFA world cup. These practices will be helpful in delivering the entire objectives and goals of the project along with the assurance that there will not be any scope creep. The mentioned strategies can be utilized within the project in manner to allow smooth flow of the activities that can meet the necessary requirements of the FIFA world cup and the consumers. The assumptions and objectives mentioned in the first section of this report can be fulfilled through adopting the above practices. However, quality assurance and change acceptable project delivery are the necessary aspects for the project delivery. This Project management Case Study has explored the Lean project management practice along with the six sigma can be the best practices for the successful and efficient delivery of this project.
