There are some basic structural phases that construct the entire process of project management (Nguyen, Chih & García de Soto, 2017). These phases are divided into ten knowledge areas. These ten phases concentrate on the individual aspects of a project. These phases are “Scope, Integration, Cost, Schedule, Quality, Risk, Resource, Procurement, Communications and Stakeholder Management”. Through the utilisation and execution of these phases, the company can easily execute the project related aspects.

Process groups on the other hand are an approving inclusion to the knowledge areas in project management. The PMBOK method includes five process groups of project management. These groups are:

Planning: It refers to the process of outlining a project. It also involves tasks and timeline of the project.

Execution: this process involves following the timeline and accomplishing the tasks.

Monitoring and controlling: monitoring is an observation period that helps to observe the task execution process and assures a proper execution of the tasks (Dumrak, Baroudi & Hadjinicolaou, 2017). Controlling refers to the guiding phase that determines successful completion of each and every task that helps to align the company goals with the project outcome.

Therefore, agile follows repetition of processes for executing the project.

However, the Standard project management is a more developed technique for execution of the program sequentially. The sequence is being set to prepare, begin, track, execute and close the program. The technique is further followed by the conventional approach as the project management generally relies on reporting, structured methods, prioritization and planning. As per the standard approach, schedule and time of the project is adjusted as time limitations and expenditure of the project often exceeds. In comparison to the agile approach, the PMBOK is eligible and linear for managing large-scale projects. However, this approach generally relies for the approval of stakeholders and basically focuses more on the procedure of the project.

The Browse Upstream Development project of Amec Foster Wheeler is a lengthy program so here the PMBOK approach will be more effective compared to the agile approach for obtaining effective outcomes (Gonclaves et al. 2017). The applications of the technique of data analysis will therefore, help the project to measure the result of the project generally based on better alternate options and in terms of value.

The technique of data representation: The project of Amec Foster Wheeler can be implemented by using the probability and impact matrix as well as the work breakdown structure (Huang et al. 2016). However, the work breakdown structure allows the project to divide the task for the stakeholders and therefore, the matrixes helps in identifying the impacts and drawbacks of the project.

The decision-making technique: The Multi-criteria decision-making is the most proper and effective technique for the Browse Upstream Development project among the other different available techniques (Silvius et al. 2017). The processes include defining threats, preparing risk control, analysis of risks, assessing risks qualitatively, tracking risk and preparing risk responses (Qazi et al. 2016). The planning of risks phase includes utilizing proper tools and techniques, measuring the outcome, giving project inputs and creating a summary for the project. The identification of risks helps assessing the potential risks in the Amec Foster Wheeler’s project, whereas the risk analysis helps to figure out mitigation strategies against the risks in the project.
