Networking Assignment: Implementation Of Local Area Network Design And Configuration

Question

Task: A case study: Local Area Network design and configuration
There is an organisation which is primarily e-commerce business. It is going through a major transformation because of its expansion. The expansion is due to merger of two smaller businesses to the organisation. Now, the organisation is moving to a new building having about 100 employees. The new building is of three floors. The ground floor is for reception, foyer and warehouse so there is a need of five data points at reception, four in warehouse and two in foyer. The 1st floor consists of five offices and forty open plan office cubicles. The 2nd floor consists of three rooms, each room have four office cubicles, two offices and thirty open plan cubicles. There is also a meeting room at 2nd floor that requires four data points. Each and every person needs two data points at their desk whether it’s an office, room cubicle or open plan cubicle. Each floor also needs wireless connectivity.

This organisation needs a new LAN plan, design and implementation before they move to new facility.
Description Design a local area network for the given case study.
Write a report on a network plan and configurations having following sections:

1. Analyse the need for the network for above case study. Investigate and propose a suitable complete network design for the case study.
2. Write a detailed setup of network devices only for a LAN.
3. Write a detailed implementation report which includes configurations of each networking device which are included in the whole network.
4. Demonstrate and compare at least 2 configuration results which may include at least two switches/routers and two PCs on physical networking devices. [20 marks]

Answer

1. Introduction
The paper mainly reflects on the local network design and configuration for an organization that undertakes e-commerce business. It is found that the business is generally going through number of transformation due to expansion in its business. The expansion within the business of ecommerce organization generally occurs due to merger two organizations. As both the organizations are merged together, the office is shifting to a new building that generally have capacity of 100 employees. The new building has generally three floors where the ground floor of the building is for the reception, warehouse and foyer and therefore the ground floor of the building generally needs five data points. On the other hand, it is identified that the first floor of the building mainly comprises of five office and forty other plane office cubicles. In addition to this, the 2nd floor of the building have meeting rooms. As each and every person who are present in the office generally requires two data points and each of the floor of the building requires internet connectivity. Thus, the organization generally wants a new LAN plan for designing as well as implementation before moving to the new office.

In this assignment, design for the local area network with proper configuration for the ecommerce business is provided so that the employees can easily get two data points and each floor can be able to get proper connectivity. Additionally, the paper also focuses on hardware requirements, network design implementation, device configuration as well as testing.

2. Project scope
The project scope is elaborated below:
Designing local area network
Planning a new LAN
Designing and implementing a local area network
Providing proper facility of wireless connection
Providing proper set up for the devices.

It is found that the diagram which is provided above is the network design implementation for the e-commerce organization. It is identified that the e-commerce organization is expanding its entire business as well as operations and the expansion is generally done by developing a merger within two different organizations. As now the employees of the organization increase due to merging of two different office together and thus the ecommerce organizations want to move to a different office where all the staffs of the organization can be accommodated. The new building in which the organization wants to move generally have three floors and in order to get proper data access points for all the employees and for receiving proper connectivity of internet between all the floors, the organization wants to implement and configure the network design.

The network design that is mainly implemented for the ecommerce organization generally comprises of routers, access points, Pcs as well as other switches for making proper connection. It is analyzed that the Internet service provider (ISP) which is generally connected with the help of the router within the building for providing proper connectivity within throughout the building. It is analyzed that the main router of the building is mainly connected with the router of each floor so that they can be able to provide the facility of connectivity to all the floors of the building. The router of the ground floor is generally connected with the main switch of the floor whereas the main switch of the ground floor is connected with foyer, warehouse as well as reception. It is found that the ground floor of the building generally needs 5 data access points which further will be distributed between reception, foyer and warehouse.

In the same way, the main router is mainly connected with the router of the first floor whereas the router of the first floor is connected with the main switch of that floor for facilitating proper connectivity and for fulfilling the requirements of data access points. It is found that the first floor has five offices which needs proper data access points as well as proper connection of internet. It is found that proper connection of internet is generally needed so that the employees can utilize smartphones as well as other types of devices.

Moreover, the second floor of the building generally needs the facility of four data access points in order to fulfill their needs as well as requirements of the meeting rooms that are present in the second floor of the building. Additionally, in second floor each of the individuals generally needs minimum two access points. Wireless connectivity is provided in the entire building so that e-commerce organization can be capable of working effectively without facing any type of challenges and problems due to availability of proper connection of internet.

The network design which is mainly developed for the ecommerce organization reflects the connection that is needed to be implement in order to fulfill the needs of the organization and for providing proper facility of wireless connectivity so that the work or operations of the organization can be performed quite effectively. In addition to this, it is found that implementation of network design generally focuses on the goals and objectives of the ecommerce organization and develops the network properly while allowing proper future needs to be accounted as well as considered. On the other hand, it is found that the network diagram that is mainly implemented is based on the past project and proper implementations are generally done within the present environment for accomplishing the goals and objectives of the ecommerce organization quite effectively without facing any type of problems and issues.
