Task: Choose one book from the reading list of a module you are studying this semester. Imagine you have been invited by your Principal/line manager to write a book review of this, so your colleagues can appreciate the book for themselves and decide whether or not to buy it. The book review assignment should:

  • Identify the distinctiveness of the book re-ideas or new information the book brings to you as a professional
  • Reveal and justify your own view of the book, supported by evidence and example
  • Summarise the main structure and content of the book
  • Give your view of what is positive and what is negative about the book and why (with explanations and evidence for your judgements)
  • Explain why the book, or aspects of the book, may (or may not) be of interest to others in your school/department/workplace

The final section in your portfolio should include a 500 word reflection.

Book review and reflection

In this stage, I have been invited by the principal to write a book review assignment. I will provide my efficiency and potentiality to review the book.

The main topic, themes and questions, debates and issues of the book The main topic of the book is academic attribution. In this book, the ideas of citation and construction have been illustrated with disciplinary knowledge. The substantial literature of the book has shown a careful balance of factual information and social interaction.

In addressing the theme discussed in the segments of book review assignment, the book has evaluated the construction of academic fact as a social process. There is no doubt that academic attribution has a prior impact on my academic career. The ratification process of the book revealed that the writer should be aware of the expectations of the audiences. According to me, the audience's expectations must be understood for a successful book. I think writers should evaluate the expectations and needs of the reader before writing the journals and books on any particular topic. In the book, the writer has maintained a wider disciplinary framework. The framework of the book has provided a propositional warrant. Given myself, the proposition warrant of the book may attract the reader to read the book. The success of the book is hidden in the significant aspect of the propositional framework.

Based on the book, I have found that academic writers tend to see the rhetorical activity as separate. The writer emphasized the indication of text knowledge between readers and writers (Hyland, 1999). According to me, a strong collaboration between readers and writers can be developed by the writing ability of the writer. In the book, the author has brilliantly handled academic attribution in citation and knowledge. A piece of deep knowledge and creativity of the authors have been revealed through each stage of the book. The authors masterly handled all the significant aspects related to academic attribution. In the book, the embedding of argument suggests a cumulative and linear progression. Based on the book, prior writing is considered as constitutive features of the research journals. As the book is also incorporated with disciplines of academic attribution, it will surely help the reader to be aware of the suitable guidelines and disciplines. In my personal reading history, four books and journals have been taken to evaluate the impact of those in my study life and professional life. I have demonstrated the importance and memorable aspect of each journal and book. Moreover, the process which helped me to shape my belief and ideas. In addition to each journal and book, I have defined what I learned from those journals and books. The very first publication journals have helped to discover the most significant aspects of autonomy-supportive teaching procedures. The journal has enabled the students to understand the topic of density.

The second publication of the journal has taught me guided enquiry activities. The evaluation of guided enquiry activity has assisted me to gather knowledge to teach students when I am inexperienced in any topic. Given myself, the process will help me to meet the expectations of students. The third publication has explored the impact of friendship on academic and social success. The positive outcomes of the book have enabled me to make collaboration with my friends regarding the academic aspect. The fourth book has assisted me to learn about the effective procedures to teach disability students. In my personal reading history, significant opinion of the author has helped me include additional skills regarding teaching procedures for disability students.

In the book review, I have developed lots of decisions due to the effectiveness of academic attribution. In the book, the author reflected on the evaluation of the academic writing process. Moreover, dynamic citation procedures and guidelines have been elaborated in the entire book. Before I reviewed the book, I had less experience with academic writing and citation. However, after reviewing the book, I am well aware of effective academic attribution. The book has also helped me to focus on the debate of books in academic writing. I am sure that ideas and information will help the reader to gain knowledge in the professional stage. I have justified some important areas of the books supported by evidence. By reviewing the book, several reasons I have found to attract the readers to buy the book. Moreover, the evaluation of methods used in the book has enabled me to gain knowledge about data collection on the topic.

In addressing the editing process, my writing process has been changed due to the effectiveness of the book review. In the stage of the book review, the author brilliantly demonstrated academic attribution and guidelines of citation. By reviewing the book, I have gained my knowledge of academic writing and citation. Moreover, my writing procedure has been changed with the opinion of those authors of the books and journal. In the study, my writing skills are a concrete combination of authors' opinions and my understanding with the view of authors. In addition to this stage, I have used my own experiences and insights to develop a significant impact on the topic. For the rest of my MA studies, my writing goal is continuous improvement. This is because I will provide more concentration on innovative teaching procedures. Moreover, I will revise the book related to academic attribution. The process will improve my writing skills in my MA study.

A collection of four journals have been chosen to explore core aspects of each journal and critique on the same, to gauge the depth of knowledge in interpreting literary works. Based on four journals, personal reading history has been reflected, which has helped in analysing the aspects of the book, noticed, evaluated and interpreted. Later, a book review has been reflected on my own personal view, which helped in comprehending the ways in which the views stated within the literary works needs to be interpreted and the learnings be implemented, practically. ?
